So Ava is 21 1/2 months old. It took almost 18 months, but we finally got her on a decent sleeping schedule. Well lately it seems like it takes her a little bit longer to fall asleep at her afternoon naps (Usually she would fall asleep at noon....now it's been more like 12:30 and sometimes not till later) Well then that makes her not go to bed till later. So today she didn't even take a nap. I left her in her crib for over an hour (call me cruel I don't care) and she WOULDN"T fall asleep. I am having a panic attack at the idea of my 21 1/2 month old BABY NOT TAKING AN AFTERNOON NAP!
Any advice would be fantastic!

Hey!! Ashy didn't take a nap yesterday..and she was in her pack n' play reading for an hour and a half...then she didn't go to bed until 9 and woke up at 5:30..but sometimes she just gets in wacky sleeping habits but manages to get back in sort of one soon enough!!! she tries to convince us she doesn't need a nap now but she is a year older than Ava and still NEEDS a nap!!
ReplyDeleteSkylar naps have seemed to gradually get pushed back, Sometimes as late as 2:00 or so. But she has always been one to go to bed later (9 pm) and sleeps in. Maybe you should just try to put her down later for both her nap and bedtime and see what happens. Or it could just be a little stage she is going through and will pass quickly. I don't know, I only have one child :)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I have to say that you are NOT cruel by leaving her there for an hour. And then I would say, don't give up on naps!!
ReplyDeleteI would probably just be consistent in putting her down every day and leaving her in there for however long you feel is okay whether she sleeps or not. Pretty soon she will be so tired out, she will fall asleep, I would think. But not-even-two is way too young to stop naps. Good luck!
I agree with Wendy. I don't think that is mean at all to leave her in there trying to get her to go to sleep. Lilly's naps can really vary from day to day as well. Some days she does the same thing and she just won't fall asleep. Usually I tend to put her to bed a half hour earlier or something that night, but let me tell you part of that is just because no one wants to be around her anymore! But the other day I put her down at 11:30 and she never fell asleep. So I got her back up at 12:30 and let her play a little longer and then tried again at 2 and she took a good nap. I then put her to bed at about 7:30 about a half hour later than usual. She may have been awake but to be honest I really didn't care and she wasn't awake too long I am sure! She needed to be in bed and I needed her to be in bed and so to bed she went. Maddy took "quiet time" naps till she was over four. It was usually movie time or book reading time by herself but it was much needed for Josey to nap and me to breath. Good luck! I know it isn't easy trying to figure it all out. I don't know if you have ever read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child but we used to call that the next best thing to the Bible! It helped me with Maddy SO much and it goes all the way up into teenage years on how much kids should be sleeping and good tips on getting them to sleep. Anyway I swear by it and still love it! Don't give up the naps. Ava still needs them and so do you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jessica on the book!! I LOVE that book, and it's been great!! I was having problems with Carly's nap schedule a few months ago-I thought she was ready to go to one nap, but she just really needed her naps spaced more apart. She now gets up at 7, then goes down @9:30-11. Then she goes down for an afternoon nap a little before 2.
ReplyDeleteDo you get her up at the same time every day? If not, maybe you can start at "wake up" time, so that she'll be more than ready for a nap earlier on, and then it won't post a later bedtime at night>? I have no clue, but i agree with everyone-she needs a nap!! Don't feel bad for leaving her in there either!! If she's fine, leave her and she'll eventually catch on-you need it!!
Good luck Ann!Let us know how everything goes!
That is about the time Sam started napping badly also, I just put her in her bed for and hour and if she fell asleep then yea and if she did not then we would just deal. SHe did that untill she was about 4
